BIO
I’m a self-taught ceramic artist, creating intuitively and following what feels right.
I never took a pottery class. One day, I decided to embrace my creative side, bought a second-hand pottery wheel and simply started making. With no formal training and without knowing the traditional terminology or techniques, I found my own way of working with clay and, along the way, developed a style that feels uniquely mine.
Today, I love combining throwing on the wheel with hand-building and sculpting, allowing each piece to evolve naturally through the making process. I’m drawn to organic shapes, raw textures and the little imperfections that make handmade ceramics feel alive.
But I’m still learning.
Part of what I love most about ceramics is that there is always something more to discover. I’m constantly experimenting, refining my techniques and pushing myself to create something better than the piece before.
I’m still on the journey of perfecting my craft and, ultimately, creating a ceramic style that is unmistakably my own. For me, that would be the greatest achievement, to create a piece and have someone recognise it as Lava Clay without even seeing the name.
Every piece is handmade, hand-thrown, hand-built, sculpted and trimmed, making each one completely unique. Our ceramics are fired twice for durability, first in a 1000°C bisque firing, followed by a 1280°C glaze firing.
